Apart from nature, Gond Paintings draw inspiration from myths and legends and theme around the mythical beasts and the intricate detailing of nature. Though most Gond paintings do not propagate Gods in human forms, this particular chimeric God, Lord Ganesha with an elephant head is fondly adopted as a concept.
Lord Ganesha, the God of all beginnings, is one of the most celebrated deities in Gond culture and thus he is a popular theme for their artists. Ganesha is widely revered as the remover of obstacles, the patron of arts and sciences and the God of intellect and wisdom. He is also the son of the popularly known Lord Shiva. Lord Ganesha is found in Gond art in different forms, especially in his childhood days where he plays mischievously with rats (his vehicle!) and cherishes his favorite sweet, laddu.
